Kayla is an amazing resource for all of community outreach, engagement, and organizing needs, as well as administrative and organizational help. Her knowledge of community groups, leaders, and stakeholders in Memphis is impressive. She is thoughtful in the approach to her work, timely, and knowledgeable. Kayla is an absolute pleasure to work with and has been a benefit in all of the work we’ve done together.
I had the privilege of collaborating with Kayla during her tenure as the facilitator for our Black Women's Collective group. Her thoughtful approach involved addressing the unique needs and interests of Black Women on a weekly basis, exploring diverse topics relevant to navigating school life, attending a predominately white institution and the journey of womanhood. Under her guidance, the group experienced substantial development of student leadership skills, ease in public speaking and increased attendance as a direct reflection of the impact of her facilitation skills.
Kayla was very knowledgeable, professional and personable. She came along when we had a sudden opening and immediately made a difference. Her thoroughness, attention to detail and following through was refreshing and sorely needed. I wish she was still with us and would love to continue our professional relationship in the future.

Passionate…devoted…optimistic. These are the words that come to mind when I think of Kayla Smith-Hardy. Kayla wholeheartedly serves as a Board of Director with Apple Seeds, Inc., which I am the founder and CEO. Kayla is a natural leader, innovator, person of great character and integrity. Kayla is altruistic. She demonstrates a desire to selflessly serve others and contribute to the larger society by her service to the women and families we serve at Apple Seeds, Inc. Kayla interned for Juvenile Court under my direction. She demonstrated the capacity and talents to work with young people in the Juvenile Justice System. She was always willing to assist with projects and attend court discussion/planning meetings to contribute her unique ideas to make changes for the youth and families of Memphis and Shelby County.
